Visa Waiver Programs
Visa Waiver Programs (VWPs) allow citizens of certain countries to travel to participating nations without needing a visa for short stays, typically up to 90 days. This program aims to facilitate tourism and business travel while maintaining security measures. Countries eligible for the VWP must meet specific criteria, including low rates of visa overstays and strong passport security.
The United States operates its own VWP, which includes 40 countries, such as France, Germany, and Japan. Travelers must apply for an Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) before their trip, ensuring they meet the program's requirements and enhancing border security.
