Vinayaka Chaturthi is a popular Hindu festival celebrated in honor of Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed god of wisdom and prosperity. It usually falls in August or September and marks the beginning of the festival season in India. During this time, devotees create beautiful clay idols of Ganesha and place them in their homes or public spaces, decorating them with flowers and lights.
The festival lasts for ten days, culminating in a grand immersion ceremony known as Visarjan. On this day, the idols are taken in a procession to a nearby water body, where they are submerged, symbolizing the return of Ganesha to his heavenly abode. This celebration brings communities together, filled with music, dance, and joy.
