Vesey's Rebellion
Vesey's Rebellion was an attempted slave revolt that took place in 1822 in Charleston, South Carolina. Led by Denmark Vesey, a free Black man, the plan aimed to liberate enslaved people and establish a community in Haiti. Vesey and his followers intended to seize control of the city and escape to freedom.
The rebellion was discovered before it could be executed, leading to the arrest of many conspirators. In the aftermath, Vesey and several others were executed, and the event heightened fears of slave uprisings, resulting in stricter laws against enslaved people in the South.
