Vanuatu Languages
Vanuatu is home to over 100 distinct languages, making it one of the most linguistically diverse countries in the world. The official languages are Bislama, English, and French, but the majority of the population speaks one of the many indigenous languages. These languages belong to the Oceanic branch of the Austronesian language family.
The indigenous languages vary significantly from one island to another, reflecting the unique cultures and histories of the local communities. Some of the most widely spoken languages include Hiri Motu, Nukuma, and Sika. Efforts are being made to preserve these languages, as many are at risk of disappearing.
