VSTOL jets
VSTOL jets, or Vertical/Short Takeoff and Landing jets, are aircraft designed to take off and land vertically or on short runways. This capability allows them to operate in environments where traditional jets cannot, such as on small aircraft carriers or in urban areas.
These jets use specialized engines that can direct thrust downward for vertical takeoff and then transition to horizontal flight. Notable examples include the Harrier Jump Jet and the F-35B Lightning II, which are used by various military forces around the world for their versatility and operational flexibility.
