VOC Ships
VOC ships were vessels used by the Dutch East India Company, known as the Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie (VOC), during the 17th and 18th centuries. These ships were crucial for trade between Europe and Asia, transporting valuable goods like spices, silk, and tea. The VOC was one of the world's first multinational corporations, and its ships played a significant role in establishing trade routes and colonial influence.
The design of VOC ships, particularly the fluyt, allowed for efficient cargo capacity and navigation. These ships were often armed for protection against pirates and rival nations. The success of VOC ships contributed to the economic power of the Netherlands during the Age of Exploration.
