Uzeyir Hajibeyov
Uzeyir Hajibeyov was a prominent Azerbaijani composer, conductor, and musicologist, born on September 18, 1885. He is best known for his contributions to the development of Azerbaijani classical music and is often referred to as the father of Azerbaijani opera. His most famous work, the opera "Leyli and Majnun," premiered in 1908 and is based on a classic Persian love story.
In addition to his operatic achievements, Hajibeyov played a significant role in promoting Azerbaijani folk music and integrating it into classical compositions. He was also a key figure in establishing music education in Azerbaijan, founding the Azerbaijan State Conservatory in 1920. His legacy continues to influence musicians and composers in the region today.
