Ursus Maritimus
Ursus maritimus, commonly known as the polar bear, is a large carnivorous mammal found primarily in the Arctic regions. They are well-adapted to cold environments, with thick fur and a layer of blubber that insulates them from freezing temperatures. Polar bears primarily hunt seals, using their keen sense of smell to locate breathing holes in the ice.
These bears are excellent swimmers and can cover long distances in the water. As a vulnerable species, Ursus maritimus faces threats from climate change, which is causing sea ice to melt, impacting their hunting grounds and overall survival. Conservation efforts are essential to protect their habitat.
