United Nations Mission in Kosovo
The United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) was established in June 1999 following the conflict in Kosovo. Its primary role is to promote peace, stability, and the establishment of democratic institutions in the region. UNMIK operates under the framework of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244, which outlines its responsibilities, including the administration of Kosovo and support for the development of local governance.
UNMIK works alongside various international organizations and agencies to facilitate humanitarian assistance, protect human rights, and foster economic development. The mission aims to create a safe environment for all communities in Kosovo, ensuring that the rights of ethnic groups are respected and upheld.
