Union pour un Mouvement Populaire
Union pour un Mouvement Populaire (UMP) was a major political party in France, founded in 2002. It aimed to unite various center-right political groups and support the policies of Jacques Chirac, who was the President of France at the time. The party focused on promoting conservative values, economic liberalism, and a strong national identity.
In 2015, the UMP was rebranded as Les Républicains to modernize its image and broaden its appeal. The party has played a significant role in French politics, producing several prominent leaders, including Nicolas Sarkozy, who served as President from 2007 to 2012.
