Union for French Democracy
The Union for French Democracy (UDF) was a centrist political party in France, founded in 1978. It aimed to unite various center-right and centrist groups, promoting liberal economic policies and European integration. The UDF played a significant role in French politics, especially during the 1980s and 1990s, often aligning with the Rally for the Republic (RPR) in coalition governments.
In 2002, the UDF began to decline in influence, facing challenges from both the Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) and the rise of new political movements. By 2007, the party was effectively dissolved, with many members joining the UMP or forming new political entities.
