Underwater Demolition Team
The Underwater Demolition Team (UDT) was a specialized unit of the United States Navy formed during World War II. Their primary mission was to conduct reconnaissance and demolition operations in enemy-held coastal areas. UDT members were trained in underwater demolition techniques, swimming, and combat skills, enabling them to clear obstacles for amphibious assaults.
After the war, the UDT evolved into the Navy SEALs, expanding their capabilities to include a wider range of special operations. The UDT played a crucial role in various conflicts, including the Korean War and the Vietnam War, showcasing their expertise in unconventional warfare and underwater operations.
