Umuganda
Umuganda is a monthly community service day in Rwanda, held on the last Saturday of each month. It encourages citizens to come together to work on community projects, such as cleaning public spaces, building infrastructure, and supporting local development initiatives. This practice fosters a sense of unity and responsibility among the people.
The term "Umuganda" translates to "coming together for a common purpose." Established after the 1994 genocide, it aims to promote social cohesion and national development. Participation is mandatory for all able-bodied citizens, and local leaders often organize activities to address specific community needs.
