Umberto Veronesi
Umberto Veronesi was an influential Italian oncologist and politician, born on November 28, 1925, in Milan. He is best known for his pioneering work in breast cancer research and treatment, advocating for less invasive surgical techniques. Veronesi founded the European Institute of Oncology in 1994, which focuses on cancer research and patient care.
In addition to his medical contributions, Veronesi served as Italy's Minister of Health from 2000 to 2001. He was a strong proponent of preventive medicine and public health initiatives.
