Ugo Fano
Ugo Fano was an Italian-American physicist known for his contributions to quantum mechanics and atomic physics. Born on September 28, 1912, in Turin, Italy, he later moved to the United States, where he conducted significant research in the field of spectroscopy. Fano is particularly recognized for the Fano resonance, a phenomenon that describes the interference between discrete and continuum states in quantum systems.
Throughout his career, Fano received numerous awards and honors for his work, including election to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences. He spent much of his academic life at Princeton University, where he influenced many students and researchers in the field of physics. Fano passed away on November 13, 2022.
