USS Yorktown (CV-10)
The USS Yorktown (CV-10) is an aircraft carrier of the United States Navy, commissioned in 1943. It was named after the earlier USS Yorktown (CV-5), which was lost during World War II. The ship played a significant role in the Pacific Theater, participating in major battles such as the Battle of Leyte Gulf and the Vietnam War.
After being decommissioned in 1970, the USS Yorktown was preserved as a museum ship at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. It serves as a historical site, showcasing naval aviation and the history of the U.S. Navy to visitors.
