USS S-5 (SS-110)
The USS S-5 (SS-110) was a United States Navy submarine, part of the S-class, launched on March 1, 1920. It was designed for coastal defense and had a displacement of about 1,000 tons when submerged. The submarine was equipped with four torpedo tubes and could carry a crew of around 40 men.
The S-5 was notable for its service during the interwar period and participated in various training exercises. Unfortunately, it sank during a diving accident on September 1, 1920, while conducting tests off the coast of Newport, Rhode Island. The wreck was later salvaged, and the submarine was decommissioned in 1922.
