USS S-26
The USS S-26 was a United States Navy submarine, part of the S-class fleet, launched on March 1, 1924. It was designed for coastal defense and had a displacement of about 1,000 tons when submerged. The submarine was equipped with torpedoes and had a crew of around 40 men, serving primarily during the interwar period.
On January 24, 1942, the USS S-26 sank after a collision with the USS Asterion, a rescue ship, near the coast of Florida. Tragically, 46 crew members lost their lives in the incident, while only 2 were rescued. The wreck remains a somber reminder of the dangers faced by submariners during World War II.
