USS Pargo (SSN-650) History
The USS Pargo (SSN-650) was a nuclear-powered attack submarine of the United States Navy, commissioned on 15 December 1967. It was the first submarine to be named after the pargo fish, reflecting its connection to the ocean. The Pargo was designed for anti-submarine warfare and intelligence gathering, serving primarily in the Atlantic Fleet.
Throughout its service, the Pargo completed numerous deployments and participated in various exercises, showcasing its advanced technology and capabilities. The submarine was decommissioned on 30 September 1994, after nearly three decades of service, and was later scrapped in 1999.
