USS Orion (AF-30) History
The USS Orion (AF-30) was a stores ship of the United States Navy, launched on 24 March 1944. She was commissioned on 18 December 1944 and served primarily during World War II, providing essential supplies to naval forces in the Pacific Theater. The ship played a crucial role in supporting operations by delivering food, ammunition, and other provisions to various fleet units.
After the war, the USS Orion continued to serve in the Navy until she was decommissioned on 1 July 1970. She was struck from the Naval Vessel Register on 1 September 1976 and later sold for scrapping. Throughout her service, the ship contributed significantly to the logistical efforts of the U.S. Navy.
