USS Orion (AF-12) (Ship History)
The USS Orion (AF-12) was a stores ship of the United States Navy, launched on December 2, 1943. She was commissioned on April 12, 1944, and served primarily during World War II, providing essential supplies to naval forces in the Pacific Theater. The ship was designed to transport food, ammunition, and other provisions to support fleet operations.
After the war, the USS Orion continued to serve in various capacities, including supply missions during the Korean War. She was decommissioned on June 1, 1965, and later struck from the Naval Vessel Register. The ship was ultimately sold for scrapping in 1970.
