USS Mobile (CL-118)
The USS Mobile (CL-118) was a Cleveland-class light cruiser of the United States Navy, launched on 17 January 1943. It was named after the city of Mobile, Alabama and served primarily during World War II. The ship was equipped with advanced radar and weaponry for its time, including 6-inch guns and anti-aircraft defenses.
Commissioned on 28 September 1944, the USS Mobile participated in various operations in the Pacific Theater, including the Battle of Leyte Gulf. After the war, it was decommissioned in 1949 and later sold for scrap in 1970. The ship played a significant role in naval history during its brief service.
