USS McGowan (FF-1089) History
The USS McGowan (FF-1089) was a Knox-class frigate of the United States Navy, commissioned on 30 June 1972. Named after Lieutenant Commander John McGowan, a naval aviator who served during World War II, the ship was designed for anti-submarine warfare and escort duties.
Throughout its service, the USS McGowan participated in various operations, including exercises with NATO forces and humanitarian missions. The frigate was decommissioned on 30 September 1993 and later struck from the Naval Vessel Register, marking the end of its nearly 21 years of active duty.
