USS Callaghan (DD-792) History
The USS Callaghan (DD-792) was a Gearing-class destroyer of the United States Navy, launched on March 26, 1945. She was named after Rear Admiral Daniel Callaghan, who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery during the Battle of Guadalcanal. The ship was commissioned on December 15, 1945, and served primarily in the Pacific Fleet.
Throughout her service, the USS Callaghan participated in various operations, including the Korean War and the Vietnam War. She was decommissioned on June 30, 1970, and later sold for scrap in 1974, marking the end of her nearly 25 years of naval service.
