Typhoon Haiyan
Typhoon Haiyan, known locally as Yolanda, was one of the most powerful tropical cyclones ever recorded. It struck the Philippines on November 8, 2013, causing widespread devastation, particularly in the Visayas region. The storm had maximum sustained winds of about 195 mph and generated massive storm surges that flooded coastal areas.
The impact of Typhoon Haiyan was catastrophic, resulting in over 6,000 fatalities and displacing millions of people. Recovery efforts were complicated by the scale of destruction, with many communities losing homes, infrastructure, and access to basic services. International aid and support were mobilized to assist in the recovery process.
