Tybee Island Light Station
The Tybee Island Light Station is a historic lighthouse located on Tybee Island, Georgia. Built in 1736, it is one of the oldest lighthouses in the United States. The current structure, completed in 1773, stands 154 feet tall and features a distinctive black and white striped design. It has been guiding ships safely along the coast for centuries.
Visitors to the light station can climb the 178 steps to the top for stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and the surrounding area. The site also includes a museum and several historic buildings, such as the Keeper's House, which provide insight into the life of lighthouse keepers and maritime history.
