Turkish Provinces
Turkey is divided into 81 provinces, each known as a il in Turkish. These provinces serve as the primary administrative divisions of the country and vary in size, population, and cultural significance. Major provinces include Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir, which are known for their economic and cultural contributions.
Each province is further divided into districts, known as ilçeler, which help manage local governance. The provinces are diverse, showcasing a range of landscapes, from the coastal areas along the Aegean Sea to the mountainous regions in the east. This diversity contributes to Turkey's rich cultural heritage and regional identities.
