Turkish Principalities
The Turkish Principalities, also known as the Beyliks, emerged in Anatolia after the decline of the Seljuk Empire in the late 11th century. These small, independent states were established by various Turkish leaders, known as Beys, who sought to control local territories. The principalities played a crucial role in the spread of Turkish culture and the Islamic faith in the region.
Over time, several of these principalities grew in power and influence, with notable examples including the Danishmends, Ahlatshahs, and Germiyanids. The Ottoman Empire eventually absorbed many of these Beyliks in the 15th century, leading to the unification of Anatolia under a single rule.
