Turbinia
Turbinia is a historic vessel known for being the first ship to be powered by gas turbines. Built in 1894 by Sir Charles Parsons, it showcased innovative engineering and design, achieving remarkable speeds for its time. The ship was originally constructed to demonstrate the potential of turbine propulsion.
Measuring 100 feet in length, Turbinia was designed for both speed and efficiency. It gained fame during the Royal Navy review in 1897, where it outpaced all other ships. Today, Turbinia is preserved at the Discovery Museum in Newcastle upon Tyne, serving as a significant example of early marine engineering.
