Tsar Bomba
The Tsar Bomba is the largest nuclear bomb ever detonated, developed by the Soviet Union during the Cold War. It was tested on October 30, 1961, over the Novaya Zemlya archipelago in the Arctic Ocean. The bomb had a yield of about 50 megatons, which is equivalent to 3,800 times the power of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima.
Designed by physicist Andrei Sakharov, the Tsar Bomba was a demonstration of Soviet nuclear capabilities. Its explosion created a fireball that reached 8 kilometers in diameter and a mushroom cloud that rose 64 kilometers into the atmosphere. The test showcased the immense destructive power of nuclear weapons and heightened global tensions during the arms race.
