Trujillo's Secret Police
Trujillo's Secret Police, officially known as the SIM (Servicio de Inteligencia Militar), was a powerful force in the Dominican Republic during the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo. Established in the 1930s, the SIM was responsible for surveillance, intimidation, and the suppression of dissent. It operated with little oversight, instilling fear in the population through tactics such as arrests, torture, and assassination.
The SIM played a crucial role in maintaining Trujillo's control over the country until his assassination in 1961. Its legacy is marked by human rights abuses and a culture of fear that persisted long after Trujillo's regime ended, impacting Dominican society for years to come.
