Truffle Pigs
Truffle pigs are specially trained animals, often domestic pigs, used to locate truffles, a type of underground fungus prized for its culinary value. Their keen sense of smell allows them to detect the strong aroma of truffles buried beneath the soil, making them valuable in the truffle-hunting process.
While pigs are traditionally used for this purpose, some truffle hunters prefer using dogs due to their easier training and lower tendency to eat the truffles once found. Regardless of the animal used, truffle hunting is a popular activity in regions like Italy and France, where truffles are highly sought after.
