Tropical Year
A Tropical Year is the time it takes for the Earth to complete one full orbit around the Sun, measured from one vernal equinox to the next. This period is approximately 365.24 days long. The tropical year is significant because it aligns with the changing seasons, which are crucial for agriculture and ecosystems.
To keep our calendars in sync with the tropical year, we use a system that includes leap years. A leap year adds an extra day to February every four years, helping to correct the discrepancy caused by the extra 0.24 days in the tropical year.
