Treaty of Neah Bay
The Treaty of Neah Bay was signed in 1855 between the United States government and several Native American tribes, including the Makah. This treaty established a reservation for the tribes and guaranteed their rights to fish and hunt in their traditional territories.
The treaty was part of a broader effort by the U.S. to secure land and resources in the Pacific Northwest. It aimed to promote peace and cooperation between the settlers and the indigenous tribes, while also recognizing the tribes' sovereignty and cultural practices.
