Treaty of Margus
The Treaty of Margus was an agreement signed in 376 AD between the Roman Empire and the Goths, a group of Germanic tribes. This treaty allowed the Goths to settle within the Roman Empire's borders, providing them with land and protection in exchange for military support against other tribes.
The treaty was significant as it marked a shift in Roman policy towards barbarian groups, recognizing their presence and influence. However, the agreement ultimately failed to maintain peace, leading to increased tensions and conflicts, which contributed to the eventual decline of the Western Roman Empire.
