Transverse Colon
The transverse colon is a part of the large intestine that runs horizontally across the abdomen. It connects the ascending colon on the right side to the descending colon on the left. This section plays a crucial role in absorbing water and salts from the digested food, helping to form solid waste.
Located beneath the stomach and above the small intestine, the transverse colon is typically about 15 to 20 inches long. It is supported by a fold of tissue called the mesocolon, which helps anchor it in place while allowing some movement during digestion.
