Transudate
Transudate is a type of fluid that accumulates in body cavities, often due to imbalances in hydrostatic or oncotic pressure. It is typically clear or pale yellow and has a low protein content, making it less viscous than exudate. Common causes of transudate include conditions like heart failure, cirrhosis, and nephrotic syndrome.
In medical diagnostics, transudate is often analyzed through a procedure called thoracentesis or paracentesis, where fluid is extracted from the chest or abdominal cavity. The analysis helps differentiate transudate from exudate, which is associated with inflammation or infection and has a higher protein content.
