Transnistrian ruble
The Transnistrian ruble is the official currency of the unrecognized state of Transnistria, which is located between Moldova and Ukraine. Introduced in 1994, it was created to replace the Soviet ruble after the region declared independence from Moldova. The currency is not widely accepted outside of Transnistria and has limited international recognition.
The Transnistrian ruble is subdivided into 100 bani and is issued by the Transnistrian Republican Bank. The currency's value is often pegged to the US dollar and the Euro, reflecting the region's economic ties. Despite its limited use, the ruble plays a crucial role in the daily lives of Transnistrian residents.
