Homonym: Transmigration (Reincarnation)
Transmigration is the belief that a soul can move from one body to another after death. This concept is often associated with various religious and philosophical traditions, including Hinduism, Buddhism, and Plato's teachings. It suggests that the soul undergoes a cycle of rebirth, influenced by the actions and experiences of previous lives.
In transmigration, the new body may be human or non-human, depending on the moral quality of the soul's past actions, known as karma. This cycle continues until the soul achieves enlightenment or liberation, ultimately breaking free from the cycle of birth and death, known as samsara.
