Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite
The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) is a NASA space telescope launched in April 2018. Its primary mission is to discover new exoplanets, which are planets outside our solar system, by monitoring the brightness of stars. TESS uses the transit method, detecting small dips in a star's light caused by a planet passing in front of it.
TESS surveys the entire sky in a series of sectors, focusing on bright stars that are relatively close to Earth. This approach allows scientists to identify potential exoplanets for further study, contributing to our understanding of planetary systems and the possibility of life beyond Earth.
