Trans-Alaska Pipeline System
The Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) is a major oil pipeline that transports crude oil from the North Slope of Alaska to the port of Valdez. Completed in 1977, the pipeline spans approximately 800 miles and is designed to carry oil from the Prudhoe Bay oil fields, one of the largest oil fields in North America.
TAPS consists of a series of above-ground and underground sections, built to withstand the harsh Arctic environment. It plays a crucial role in the U.S. energy supply, allowing for the efficient movement of oil while minimizing environmental impact through careful engineering and monitoring.
