Traditional Irish Sports
Traditional Irish sports include activities that have been played for centuries, reflecting Ireland's rich cultural heritage. One of the most popular is hurling, a fast-paced game played with a wooden stick called a hurley and a small ball known as a sliotar. Another significant sport is Gaelic football, which combines elements of soccer and rugby, played by two teams aiming to score points by kicking or punching a ball into the opposing goal.
Other traditional sports include camogie, a female version of hurling, and handball, where players hit a ball against a wall using their hands. These sports are often played at local and national levels, with competitions organized by the GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association), promoting community involvement and preserving Irish traditions.
