Traditional Hawaiian
Traditional Hawaiian culture is rooted in the customs, beliefs, and practices of the native Hawaiian people. It emphasizes a deep connection to the land, or aina, and the ocean, which are considered sacred. Traditional practices include hula, a dance that tells stories through movement, and the use of the ukulele, a small stringed instrument that is integral to Hawaiian music.
The social structure of traditional Hawaiian society was organized into classes, with chiefs, or ali'i, at the top. Spiritual beliefs were centered around akua, or gods, and the practice of kapu, a system of laws that governed daily life. Traditional Hawaiian practices also included agriculture, fishing, and the crafting of tools and canoes.
