Thyroid Stimulating Hormone
Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland, located at the base of the brain. Its primary role is to regulate the production of hormones by the thyroid gland, which is responsible for controlling metabolism, energy levels, and overall growth and development in the body.
When TSH levels are high, it signals the thyroid gland to produce more hormones, such as thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). Conversely, low TSH levels indicate that the thyroid is producing enough hormones, leading to a decrease in TSH production. This feedback loop helps maintain hormonal balance and proper bodily function.
