Three Sacred Treasures
The "Three Sacred Treasures" are important symbols in Japanese mythology and culture, representing the divine legitimacy of the Japanese imperial family. These treasures consist of the Kusanagi no Tsurugi (a sacred sword), the Yasakani no Magatama (a curved jewel), and the Yata no Kagami (a mirror). They are said to have been passed down from the gods to the first emperor of Japan, Jimmu.
These treasures are not only significant in religious contexts but also play a role in the enthronement ceremonies of Japanese emperors. The treasures are housed in various locations, with the mirror and jewel kept at the Ise Grand Shrine and the sword at the Tokagawa Art Museum. Their preservation symbolizes the continuity and unity of the Japanese nation.
