Thomas J. Beale was an American adventurer and treasure hunter, best known for his association with the Beale Ciphers. In the early 19th century, he allegedly buried a large treasure of gold, silver, and jewels in Virginia, which he claimed was worth millions of dollars. Beale left behind a set of three ciphers that supposedly contained the location of the treasure, its contents, and the names of the heirs.
