Theft of The Scream
In 1994, Edvard Munch's famous painting, The Scream, was stolen from the National Gallery in Oslo, Norway, during the Winter Olympics. The theft was executed by a group of thieves who broke in and took the artwork, which is known for its expression of existential angst.
The painting was recovered later that year, in May, after a tip-off led to its discovery in Oslo. The incident highlighted the vulnerabilities of art security and raised awareness about the protection of valuable cultural artifacts. The Scream remains one of the most iconic pieces of art in history.
