The Tale of Chunhyang
"The Tale of Chunhyang" is a famous Korean folktale that tells the story of Chunhyang, a beautiful daughter of a kisaeng (courtesan), and her love for Lee Mongryong, the son of a nobleman. Their love blossoms despite the social class differences, and they secretly marry. When Lee Mongryong leaves for the capital to take the state examination, he promises to return for her.
While he is away, a corrupt governor attempts to force Chunhyang to become his concubine. She remains loyal to Lee Mongryong and resists the governor's advances. Eventually, Lee Mongryong returns, defeats the governor, and reunites with Chunhyang, symbolizing true love and fidelity.
