The Sojourner
The Sojourner was a robotic rover that explored the surface of Mars in 1997. It was part of NASA's Mars Pathfinder mission, designed to demonstrate the feasibility of using rovers for planetary exploration. The rover was equipped with scientific instruments to analyze rocks and soil, sending valuable data back to Earth.
The Sojourner measured about 65 centimeters long and weighed around 11.5 kilograms. It traveled over 100 meters on Mars, capturing images and conducting experiments. Its successful mission paved the way for future rovers, such as Spirit, Opportunity, and Curiosity, enhancing our understanding of the Martian environment.
