The Quill
The Quill is a traditional writing instrument that consists of a feather or a similar material with a pointed end, used for writing or drawing. Historically, quills were made from the feathers of large birds, such as geese or swans, and were popular from the 6th century until the 19th century. The tip of the quill is cut to create a nib, which holds ink and allows for smooth writing on paper.
Quills were often used in conjunction with ink and inkpots, and they required regular maintenance, including trimming the nib and dipping it in ink. The use of quills declined with the invention of the fountain pen and other modern writing tools, but they remain a symbol of classic writing and are sometimes used in calligraphy and artistic endeavors.
